Not only did they swallow the bitter pill because they lost 1-2 to Manchester City on Saturday (1/1), Arsenal had to accept the fact that they were listed as the team with the most red cards in the English Premier League era.
Against City, Arsenal’s Gabriel was given a red card after receiving two yellow cards. In Goal International’s record, this is Arsenal’s 100th red card since the Premier League started in 1992. No team has achieved that number other than the Gunners.
Gabriel is the 11th player to receive a red card since Arsenal were managed by Mikel Arteta in December 2019. This is also the most of any club in the same period.
The red card that Gabriel received with 30 minutes remaining meant Arsenal had to concede in the final minutes. In fact, they had won 1-0 in the first half.
The defeat kept the London Cannon still in fourth place with 35 points. However, their position is not safe at all because West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are stalking them from fifth and sixth place.
West Ham stuck to Arsenal with 34 points, while Tottenham 33 points. This makes the race for the top four rankings still wide open considering that Manchester United, who is in seventh place, still has three games saved with a collection of 31 points.
